Bird Images 2010


The American Avocet is a conspicuous, gregarious, and easily identified tall shorebird with giveaway foraging technique. It sweeps its distinctively upcurved bill quickly from side to side through the water or the surface of soft mud to trap minute food items. Here is a group of them thinking about breakfast.

One of my favorite gulls is the Heermann's Gull. It is a medium-sized, graceful gull that visits us in San Diego after nesting in Mexico. I love its colorful bright red bill and eyes.
